Our story
Welcome to St Oswald’s!
For over a 100 years, St Oswald’s church has been sharing the good news of Jesus and gathering each Sunday to worship God.
In January 2026, Simon Oatridge became our Vicar and brought with him around 25 members from our neighbouring church, All Saints Ecclesall to revitalise the church. Since then, our church has grown, as we look to get to know, and serve, the people of Abbeydale.
Vision: Love God, love people, make disciples
Jesus said the greatest commandments are to love God and love our neighbour, and His great commission is to make disciples of all nations.
Love God
We love God because he first loved us. We are called to love God with everything we are and in every area of life. At St Oswald’s we want to be Jesus centred, passionate in worship, shaped by Scripture and led by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
Matthew 22:37
Love People
Jesus calls us to love our neighbour, and we long for everyone around us to know they are loved by God and by us. We want to be a church which loves and serves those around us, and create opportunities for people to explore faith and encounter Jesus.
Jesus said
“Love your neighbour as yourself.”
Matthew 22:39
Make Disciples
To be a disciple of Jesus is a lifelong adventure of learning to listen and obey the one who died and rose again for us. We want to be intentional about growing as followers of Jesus, and helping others to come to know him for themselves.
Jesus said
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19–20
